We Interview Rene for her Views on Murder Music :
Rockworld : How did the idea of Murder Music come about?
Rene : The first time I heard about the Black Metal scene in Norway and Black Metal music in general, was in about 1999. I was fascinated by the scene and the stories that I heard. I started reading books like Lucifer Rising and Lords of Chaos and doing as much research as I could on it. Through the years leading up to 2006 (when we started filming the program) my interest never died, in the history of the movement as well as in the bands. And one rainy day in morbid old London, I just thought what a great idea it could be to make a program out of it all. And as I was already presenting for Rockworld TV, Redemption TV at the time, I pitched the idea while enjoying a few JD’s and cokes at a local Camden pub after a gig! And the rest is history!
Rockworld : Why the name Murder Music?

Rene : The name Murder Music came about when David (The Director) and I were looking into a few music genres that involved murder in some way or another. When we decided we were going to use the name for the Black Metal program we thought it suits the harshness of the music, the genre and also its history. We wanted a name that people would love to say and hear, especially the people who are into this type of music! I for one like the name Murder Music, and yes it might be a bit sensationalized but so has the history of the genre! Read more about the worlds biggest rock concert ever.
Rockworld : What is your most memorable moment while working Murder Music?
Rene : Meeting all the great people that we met while filming this program. Going to Norway was really the best thing for me. I’ve always wanted to go there and loving the scene and the music like I do, I fell in love with it! The people we met there, in the Black metal scene, were so welcoming and helpful.  We didn’t really expect that to happen. But to tell you the truth we didn’t really know what to expect, we pretty much went there blind folded. All I know is, I wont forget the people I met and my experiences I had there, they will stay with me for a long time.
Rockworld : What were the most difficult parts to putting this program together?

Rene : Getting some of the bands to agree to be interviewed by us. As this is a sensitive subject for the Black Metal scene and musicians involved in it all, it was at first quite hard to get peoples trust. I understand that probably at least once a year some media team comes through Norway to interview people about the murders and the church burnings, I would be sick about taking about it too. It must be like constantly scratching an open wound.

Another thing which was difficult was filming my links in the forest. It was the middle the night in the winter, wet cold and raining. It was hard for everyone that was involved as we spent up to 20 hours in those conditions over a period of 2 nights. Its not all glitz and glammer, it’s more like a test of your endurance!

Rockworld : Tell us about your personal interest in the scene?
Rene : I love the music and the history, it’s the one music genre that truly has some greater meaning as far as I am concerned. The people, who are truly into this music, live it, breathe it and eat it! To me that means a lot!
Rockorld : What are your favourite Black Metal bands?

Rene : I have always loved Burzum, which will probably stay my favourite for a long time. I’ve also been listening to allot of Carpathian Forest, old Emperor and Abruptum.

Rockworld : Tell us about the Nattefrost interview which never made it to the final edit but we hear was a very interesting interview.
Rene : Yeah that one was a bit of a mad one! We were drinking a pint with Vortex from Dimmu Borgir at the ‘Rock Inn’ in Oslo when he said that we should interview Nattefrost. We were like yeah cool, if you say so! So off Vortex went to go speak to the man, which was just sitting at a table next to ours. Me being born blonde didn’t click as to who he was! I was just told Nattefrost from Nattefrost! So off me, David and Nattefrost went around the corner to go do the interview. We found a dark spot under a church clock and whipped out the camera to interview this mysterious man, who at the time had the flu. As we were setting up the sound David released I broke the microphone cable in the pervious interview with Dimmu Borgir! But still we continued! My first question was “who are you and what band are you from!” And he said “Natterfrost from Carpathian Forest” and I almost wet my lil knickers.  I was so excited to get this interview! As for breaking the microphone wire, David saw me breaking it but as he is a lil man with a big heart and he didn’t want to tell me, in front of the whole Dimmu crew, that I am doing something wrong!
Rockworld : Looking back is there anything you would of liked to change or add to the program?
Rene : I would of liked to interview some members from Gorgoroth and it would have been great to interview Emperor and Darkthrone. One other thing I would of liked to include was some interviews with some Swedish Black metal bands. But otherwise I think it is great as it is! We put our hearts and souls into making this program and we did the best we could!
