December Rockjaw

Hey, while we’ve got your attention, we may as well give you some hot tips for 2007…

These are the names and releases we here at Rockjaw reckon you’ll be hearing loads more about in the year ahead, so make sure you take our word for it and check them out before the hoards! And remember where you heard it first!

GALLOWS
Feral, bile loaded, venomous punk infused hardcore from the UK, who have all of a sudden found themselves grabbing headlines and attention thanks to their dangerously kinetic live shows, raw lyricisms and no frills punch. Thing is, despite their serrated edges and balls of steel, Gallows don’t half know how to pen a tune too! See for yourselves on their debut album ‘Orchestra Of Wolves’, which is out now on In At The Deep End Records, and look out for the band supporting As I Lay Dying and Bullet For My Valentine in early ‘07

CANCER BATS
They may be Canadian, but Cancer Bats are as southern fried as Colonel Sanders, infusing their fat, dirty grooves with a hardcore kick for extra punch. Their amazing debut album ‘Birthing The Giant’ was just released on these shores via Hassle Records, but we’re pretty sure you wont be able to go far soon without seeing the bands name plastered across chests, bags and magazine pages.

MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER
While we’re talking Southern sounds, Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster are the new project from former Underoath singer Dallas Taylor, but don’t be expecting anything remotely like Underoath’s melodic hardcore here. Instead, think AC/DC meets Southern rock, deep frying on a meaty slab of metal riffs! Their self titled debut is out now on Ferret Music, and the band are headed over here in early 07 as support on the Norma Jean headline tour! Finger lickin’ good!

BRAND NEW
Not exactly a new band, but with latest album ‘The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me’ proving to be a bit of a reinvention for the Long Island quartet, Brand New might just be making even more major waves in the new year. With all trace of their former pop punk stylings now gone, Brand New have evolved into a downbeat, intelligent rock proposition, complete with dark, sophisticated lyrics and melodies to die for. Remember how exciting it was when Deftones unleashed ‘White Pony’? Well, this is like that time! A brand new Brand New…. Who’da thunk it!

DUSTIN KENSRUE
Probably better known to you as the lead singer of the very awesome Thrice (who are also set to release a four disc concept album in 2007), Dustin Kensrue’s debut solo effort ‘Please Come Home’ is a heartfelt blend of country, folk and the singer’s trademark sombre melancholia. Like Johnny Cash meets Ryan Adams with a distinctive Thrice twist on the vocal melodies, this mini album – which is to be released in January - is a bit of an unexpected gem! Its different, but in all the right ways.
